OCZ Modstream 520W Review - Pros and Cons

    Pros - Excellent Performance

    • Amazing build quality.
    • Modular cables, for a clean install with no unnecessary cables.
    • Silent 120mm fan for excellent airflow.
    • Overclocking headroom for most processors.
    • UV reactive cables for all those case modders with UV lights.
    • Peak power output of 620W.
    • Multiple power supplies and wattages available.

Cons - Cables are not very flexible.

    • Extra 24 pin ATX connector could have been modular as well.
    • Voltage drop at load during excessive overclocking, yet acceptable!
    • No adjustable rails like the Powerstream.
    • ATX connectors are a little short compared to other cables.
    • Only one floppy connector available; cannot power both pump and fan controller without adapters.

    Conclusion

The OCZ Modstream was never intended to be an overclocker's power supply, but with strong high amp rails, the OCZ Modstream is capable of powering a highly overclocked processor. Although the rails are a little below spec, it still maintains very stable voltages Idle and Load.

If you are looking for the best modular power supply available, go straight to OCZ and pick up a Modstream. With its excellent build quality and unique features, the OCZ Modstream deserves our Dev Hardware Recommended Award.
