OCZ GameXstream 700W PSU Review - Features of the GameXstream

    • Quad 12v rails, each with a maximum load of 18A
    • Black Powder Coating
    • Sleeved Power Leads
    • NVIDIA® SLI™ Certified
    • OCZ PowerWhisper™ Technology
    • Internal 120mm blue LED fan

With a three year warranty, backed by OCZ's exclusive PowerSwap™ replacement program, you won't experience endless return-for-repair loops!

A Closer look at the OCZ GameXstream

The GameXstream has beautifully wrapped long power leads, which lead up towards a small black powder coated box with a large 120mm fan. Once powered, the fan glows blue with LED lights.

A quick glance into the power supply may upset former Powerstream owners. They may be disappointed by the size of the heat sinks, or lack thereof. I certainly was. Instead of big heat sinks with a lot of surface area, OCZ has thin aluminum blades to dissipate heat. I figured this thing would burn up in a hot minute under extensive overclocking, or powering a ton of components.

Once I tested it myself, my opinion quickly changed. There was almost no heat being pumped out from my system at idle, and very little at load. OCZ is certainly using highly efficient components for this efficient power system. The heat produced seems to be much less than I remember my Powerstream 420W ever producing.

With less heat and a much higher peak performance, they certainly must be more efficient. Efficiency is one thing, and so is stability; OCZ provides both effortlessly. Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, let's get this thing into the chassis and see how that works out.
