    Apex SL-800EPS 600W PSU - Conclusion

In my opinion, Apex has done an excellent job moving from being an OEM into the bounds of the retail market.  This PSU is not only aesthetically pleasing, but supplied nice solid power all of the time.

One last thing I would like to mention is the 20+4 power connectors. On a lot of PSUs, these two pieces snap together to accommodate the newer 24 pin connectors, while you can unsnap them for 20 pin configurations. This particular PSU has these two connectors taped together. If you wish to use it in a 20 pin configuration, you merely cut the tape to disconnect them, but then need to find new tape to reconnect them if you find the need to change.

So without much further ado, let's get into the pros and cons of this PSU:

    Pros:

    • Excellent and solid power for the 600w range.
    • Long cables accommodate full tower cases nicely.
    • Attractive finish.
    • 120mm blue LED fan to keep it cool.
    • Dual SATA and Dual PCI-E.

    Cons:

    • Finish scratches easily. (I set it down on my workbench and had a couple of scratches within seconds).
    • Cables not modular.
    • Tape required to utilize 24 pin power connection.

Overall, I would have to give this PSU a score of 8 on a scale of 1-10, and Dev Hardware's Recommended Product award.

A better system of connecting the power plugs as well as a modular cable harness would have pushed this PSU up to almost perfect status. I didn't list the price under the pros or cons, because at $80 (at the time of this writing), it's priced at just about what I'd expect for a quality PSU of this size.

I'd like to thank Apex for sending us the SL-8600EPS for review.  If you would like any additional information about this PSU or any of Apex's other products, visit their website at http://www.apextechusa.com/products.asp?pID=97.

       · Nice PSU, pretty silent, cool blue glow, solid power. What else can you ask...
