Top Five Laser Printers for Under $200 - Samsung ML-3051N (est. $199)

    Samsung ML-3051N (est. $199)

The ML-3051N is a lot like the Brother 5250D, however it does cost a bit more.  The 3051N has the same paper capacity of the 5250D (250 pieces), but this Samsung only offers one additional 250-sheet paper tray compared to two additional 250 sheet trays in the Brother model. This printer is slightly larger than the Brother 5250D printer at 15.8 x 17.1 x 11.2 inches and tips the scales at just under 35 pounds.

The maximum dots per inch (dpi) of this printer is 1200 x 1200, which is good.  The image quality is very good; it is on par with the Brother 5250D. This model also has a built-in duplexer which allows for easy printing on both sides of the paper, much like the 5250D. This printer comes with a 4,000 page toner cartridge. When it is time to replace this cartridge, you can choose from a 4,000 or an 8,000 page cartridge, which will cost a bit over $100. The 8,000 page cartridge will help lower the per-page cost down to only 1.6 cents.

This Samsung laser printer is relatively durable. Scheduled maintenance intervals are at 70,000, 80,000, and 150,000 pages. This maintenance would need to be performed by a licensed technician.

This printer performs pretty well in the speed department. Recent tests have shown that the ML-3051N will shoot out over 20 pages per minute of text documents and over 8 pages of graphic documents. These numbers are a bit slower than the 5250D's speedy numbers, but they are still very good.

This printer is a good choice because of its speed, image quality, and its maintenance-free design early in its life (no maintenance until 70,000 pages).
