Silex Fingerprint Scanner Review - Final thoughts
(Page 5 of 5 )
The Silex Technologies FUS-200N was mostly easy to install (forgiving my wireless networking software), and simple to use when securing Windows. For users who want to secure their desktop in a more secure fashion than username and password alone, this is a step in the right direction.
This will not, however, keep a determined hacker with access to the box out of your data. By using a boot disk, or even just removing your hard drive and placing it in another computer, your data can still be accessed. But for your average computing environment, this device would be more than adequate.

As always, here are the ups and downs:
Ups:
- Easy to install (unless you have already customized the Windows login)
- Easy to enroll fingerprints
- Very good fingerprint recognition
Downs:
- SX-Pass utility doesn’t do well on standard websites
- Pricey ($140+ at the time of this writing)
Based on my use of the Silex Technologies FUS-200N Fingerprint Scanner, I give it a 6/10 ranking. The parts of it that worked, worked well, but the SX-Pass part of it wasn’t even worth installing. In today’s world, a majority of a person’s logins and passwords are going to be web related, and if you are selling a product and tout password filling as one of its key features, it should work. In this case, it did nothing except disappoint me.
