Plusdeck Review - So what is the verdict?

The Plusdeck 2c is really an excellent tool for anyone who would like to digitize cassette tapes.  I certainly have a good number that will be digitized shortly due to this cool PC component.

One thing I thought would have been cool for them to add to this product, would be the ability to write back to the cassette tapes.  Some people still have cassette players in their cars, or even carry a Walkman that plays cassettes when they exercise or work out.  In this case, it would be nice to be able to take your mp3s and record them onto a cassette.

As always, here are the ups and downs for this product:

    Ups:

    • Well-made, solid construction
    • Makes good quality MP3s from cassettes
    • Easy to use, with and without the software
    • No drivers needed, works through existing serial and audio connections
    • Bundled software works well

    Downs:

    • A lot of jumpers on back make installation confusing for computer beginners
    • Makes other audio components more confusing to integrate, if not impossible
    • Doesn’t have the ability to write back to the cassettes

To be honest, this product is very well built, and works perfectly for its intended purpose.  Even with its shortcomings, it is absolutely an awesome product.  This being the case, I give it a solid 9 out of 10.  If you’ve got cassette tapes, this is the tool to use to digitize them.

I'd like to thank ThinkGeek for supplying us with the Plusdeck 2c for review.  If you would like more information about the Plusdeck, visit ThinkGeek at http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/drives/7a8d/
