NetGear Wireless Digital Music Player MP101 Review - Installation
(Page 2 of 4 )
Installation, on its face, seemed pretty straight forward. Plug it in, pop in the software and you’re off, right?
Not quite.
Here’s how I wished things went (and according to the instructions, how they were supposed to go): I connected the unit (and all of the necessary included cables) to my stereo.

I then installed the software on my PC. After the customary reboot-after-install, I fired up the software and went to the room with the music player, and had the player search for any local networks. I connected it to my computer, set the encryption, and searched through my music files.

I was now ready to kick back on the sofa to eat some cheesy pooffs, zip on a soda and chill, listening to my favorite tracks, located conveniently on the hard drive on my PC, in another room.
But, there’s another option. You can always use the Ethernet wires that they include in the box if you don’t have a wireless router. The Ethernet cord that they include is only usable if your router and stereo are about 4 feet apart, since that’s the amount of cord that they provide. Of course you could go to any computer store and purchase a longer wire if needed. If you go on the wired way of things, you won’t have to deal with the wireless problems that I soon encountered.
