Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop 1000 Review - Installation

Installing the wireless optical desktop set is the definition of simple. If you are replacing your existing keyboard and mouse, you must first install the software provided on the CD to take advantage of all of the unique features right away. If you do not have a working keyboard or mouse you can skip the installation of software until after the rest of the installation is completed.

The second step is to simply install the provided energizer batteries in the keyboard and mouse. Once the batteries are installed, you need to position the receiver at least 8 inches away from your computer monitor, computer case, and any other items that might cause interference. Position the keyboard and mouse the same distance away from those objects, but no father than 6ft (1.8m) away from the receiver.

The receiver itself has the LED lights to show if Caps Lock, Number Lock or Function Lock are enabled.

Once you have found an appropriate location for the receiver, boot up your system if it is not already started. Plug the receiver into the USB port and wait for windows to detect the newly installed hardware. Once windows is finished installing all appropriate drivers, it is time to test the wireless keyboard and mouse. At the desktop, try pressing the windows key and move the mouse around; if either does not respond, press the connect button on the bottom of the wireless keyboard or mouse and test to see if it’s performing correctly.
