Logitech Harmony 1000 - Design

Design
I like the design of the Harmony 1000 a lot. However, it may take some getting used to for first-timers who are comfortable with traditional style remotes. This remote is much larger than the typical remote, and usually cannot be operated blindly like most other traditional remotes. Although the Harmony 1000 is wider than most traditional remotes, it is also much thinner. The overall dimensions of this remote are 4.1 x 5.5 x 0.7 inches, and it is relatively lightweight in your hand.

The Harmony 1000 has a good-sized 3.5 inch touch-screen LCD that features QVGA resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. The screen looks vibrant, and the brightness is adjustable. The excellent quality LCD screen is great to have, but it seems that it sucks a lot of battery life from the device. The battery is rechargeable though, and the Harmony 1000 comes with a recharging docking station. This docking station keeps the remote nice and tidy while charging the battery. Just don't forget to put the remote into the docking station when you're done with it, otherwise it may be dead the next time you go to use it.

There are a few controls next to the LCD screen which are used to navigate the menu system, as well as for common functions such as volume and channel changing. These buttons are all back-lit for easier viewing in the dark. Most of the functions are controlled using the touch-screen rather than the external buttons on the remote. The LCD touch-screen will display different virtual remote control buttons which vary according to which component you're controlling.
Overall, the style and design of this remote are good. It's relatively small and thin, and it just looks very attractive. The LCD touch-screen is bright and colorful which makes this remote work well in both well-lit as well as dimly-lit areas.
