    In-Ear Headphones - Performance

The CX300 has a dynamic transducer inside. Due to this, users can experience a strong bass-based sound quality. Of course, this little extra of unnatural bass boost may seem a little strange; overall, however, you will like it. The middle frequencies come back clear, while the high notes become a little shrill at the top end.

The sound isolation is acceptable for an average user. The choices that increased the comfort of the headphones bit back in this category. With no music in the headphones, you can practically here every sound around you. The idea behind the construction is that, instead of the deep insertion where the sound-isolated environment is created directly inside your ear canal, here the ear buds also serve as an extension of your ears.

In fact, the ear buds create the sound-isolated chamber outside your ear. Through the space left open at your ear, the sound is carried from the transducers. The material is too soft to isolate perfectly. However, once some sound comes from the transducers, the outside noise almost disappears.

One common myth is that IEMs damage your hearing faster than traditional headphones. Indeed, at full volume, most headphones can reach sound levels close to 120 dB. As a comparison, a plane at take off produces sound levels around of 130 dB. However, the myth in itself is false. The key is to listen only at the level you need to hear it. In fact, by using sound isolation, this level can be lower than usual in a noisy environment, and thus help to avoid hearing damage. Remember, damage to your hearing is permanent. You need to take care of it.

The Sennheiser IEMs are almost weightless. You can barely feel the 0.10 ounces (~3g) when you hold them in your hand. The cables may look a little fragile at first; nevertheless, months of extreme usage by me demonstrated the contrary. This and the asymmetrical design really make this equipment ideal for those who want a cheap headphone for their MP3 players, iPods or mobile phones (if the phone has a 3.5 mm (1/8 inch) jack input).

The less intrusive choice for construction also helps those that do not like to keep something in their inner ear. Overall, in its class it is certainly one of the best. However, poor isolation can overwhelm many pluses. As for the packaging, although it contains the genuine items it doesn't offer any extras, like a bag for storing the headphones when you are traveling. I award these in-ear headphones a score of 8 out of 10.
