Dell Wireless Printer Adapter 3300 - I got the hook-up
(Page 4 of 5 )
Now that the Wireless Printer Adapter was configured and authenticated on our network, it was time to attach the printer and configure it to work wirelessly.
For this test, we will be using a Dell 964 All-In-One printer.
First, I unplugged the wireless adapter from the computer itself. Then, using the same USB cable, I plugged the wireless adapter into the printer, like so:

In the picture, the two ends of the USB cable are indicated by the yellow arrows. I then installed the CD for the printer.

In this case, we chose the Network Installation option for the machine, since the printer is actually going to be sitting on the network directly. The next screen is the important one, as you will see.

The setup software only found one printer adapter, and a quick check of the MAC address confirms that it’s the one we configured just a few moments ago.
I’m going to leave out the rest of the screenshots, since they are just about installing the Dell 964 software, and have nothing to do with the wireless adapter directly.
One thing worth mentioning though, is that our network is DHCP. Apparently the client software ties to each adapter via MAC address, so if your printer adapter receives a new IP lease, your machine will still find the right printer. I confirmed this by manually assigning the above IP address to another machine, and then cycling the power on the wireless adapter. It grabbed a new IP address, and still allowed access to the printer.
