Dell Wireless Printer Adapter 3300 - Configure it, just a little bit
(Page 3 of 5 )
We have a secured wireless network here in our offices, so I was wondering just how this thing would connect to our network. Did I have to assign a static IP outside of our DHCP range? Did I need to connect it to a laptop or something so I could configure the right subnet?
Luckily, it was MUCH simpler than that.
I’ve been working with computers for quite a number of years now and rarely have to refer to a manual. Well, that wasn’t the case with this item. To be honest, the quick-start instructions from Dell were short, sweet, and to the point.
You begin by plugging the adapter into your computer, and then hooking up the AC adapter. Then you insert the CD into your drive. You are greeted with a nice welcome screen.

The obvious choice here was to select to install the 3300 Utility. Clicking on it showed the next screen.

Okay, this was promising. It referred to the fact that I would need the SSID for my wireless network. This was definitely a step in the proper direction. Another click of the NEXT button took me to the next screen.

This screen showed me all of the wireless networks in range. Now, our offices are in a larger office complex, and there are apparently some other open networks around us. I selected my network, and on the next screen was able to set my security options. Seems you start by configuring the actual network adapter through a local USB connection, which configures it for the network.

And now, you can see I’ve been given the MAC address for the printer adapter I just added to the network.
