CanoScan LiDE 35 Scanner Review - Conclusion

The CanoScan LiDE 35 was very easy to use. Installation consisted of simply inserting the software CD and installing drivers and optional programs like CanoScan Toolbox CS, ArcSoft PhotoStudio, and ScanSoft OmniPage SE OCR. From that point forward, connect the LiDE 35 via a USB2.0 cable and it was ready to be used. The CanoScan Toolbox is very powerful, giving eight scan options, all of which are totally customizable. Some presets include OCR and write to PDF. The Toolbox also allows you to remap the LiDE 35's four power-buttons.

    Canon LiDA 35 Scanner Review

Overall I was very pleased with the CanonScan LiDE 35. For what it costs, its sleek dimensions and exterior look, and user friendliness, there are bound to be some pitfalls, and those are its scanning speed, text scanning quality, and lack of support for a film adapter or automatic document feeder. It took over a minute just to scan a 4x6 photo at 1200 dpi. Just imagine scanning an A4 color document at that resolution! Scanned text was rather grainy and anything below 300 dpi when scanning small font was useless. Surprisingly, OCR worked really well at 300 dpi. Still, the LiDE 35's awesome color photo scanning really shows where the scanner excels. It's no wonder they call it a photo scanner.
