CanoScan LiDE 35 Scanner Review - Specifications

The CanoScan LiDE 35 is the better of Canon's two photo scanners. It retails for $79.99 and is really a mix between a powerful scanner and something that is small and affordable. For starters, it uses push-button technology to automate scanning, transfers data and gets power through one simple USB cable, delivers a maximum 1200x2400 color dpi resolution and 48-bit color depth, and improves images with automatic retouching and enhancement technology.

In comparison to the 3000ex, the lowest CanoScan model, the LiDE is about $30 more and offers better scan quality for photos and OCR. Its retouching and enhancement technology auto-corrects tone and optimizes highlights and shadows, making scans cleaner and more vibrant. The LiDE 35 is also thinner and lighter. At 1.5 inches tall and just 3.7 lbs, the LiDE 35 is a sweet scanner that would complement any desk.

The LiDE 35's push-button power scanning refers to four buttons on the front of the scanner that scan a photo, copy a document, prepare material for an e-mail, or create a PDF. Simply position the scanned document, press a button, and the scanner will do everything automatically and as quickly as possible to perform that button's function.

The main reason why the LiDE 35 can be so compact and use so little power is its contact image sensor (CIS) scanner element. Referred to by Canon as LiDE technology, CIS saves more space and power than the traditional CCD, charge-coupled device scanner. However, CCD scanners usually have better image quality.
