Wave Music System Review - Listening to Music on the Wave Music System
(Page 3 of 4 )
Even before the first track on the demonstration CD is finished you will realize that the system is very high quality. The first track takes you to the beach, relaxes you with the soothing sounds you hear at the beach, then moves on to a bee attack and a busy intersection in a large city, and down to the subway, all in a matter of seconds.
The quality is simply amazing from such a small unit. It is as realistic as you could want to get -- especially with the bee attack and busy intersection. But honestly, who would listen to that? I believe it's on the CD only to give an example of those familiar sounds to show how close it is to the real thing.
Playing music doesn't necessarily fall into the same category. Most of the tracks on the demonstration CD are of classical music. I listened to a few tracks and felt as if I was at a concert -- I couldn't see the piano, but I sure could hear it as if it were in the room with me.
I recently purchased a few CDs I thought would provide a better demonstration of the quality of the system for the genre of music to which I prefer to listen. I decided to use the song Circles performed by Incubus. I have a Live Performance of Circles on CD, the studio recording of Circles, and also an MP3 CD with a copy of Circles in 128kbps format. To compare the audio quality I listened to it on my cyber acoustics 2.1 setup with no adjustments to the system.
Comparing Live and Recorded Tracks
When I listened to the live track, it was full of sound; anywhere I went in the room, it sounded excellent. The only complaint I had is the lack of bass in some areas. If there is any kind of dampening between you and the system, there is a noticeable decrease in bass. But the high and mid range still flowed through. On the other hand, the bass is almost too loud behind the system and to the sides. It's not nearly as noticeable with the studio recordings.
When I compared this to my Cyber Acoustics 2.1 audio setup, the Music System blew it away in quality. The only edge my Cyber Acoustics had was a lot more bass than the Music System simply because of the 8 inch 30W subwoofer. At high volume, however, my Cyber Acoustics system distorts the music to the point where it sounds horrible. At the same volume level, the Music System is still crystal clear and has plenty left in it for more volume. This tiny unit has no problem filling a 15x40ft room full of high quality sound; my Cyber Acoustics can only fill it with distorted sounds. It is truly amazing the sound that this system is capable of producing.
