    Logitech Z-2200 Review - Specifications

Here are the technical specifications of the Logitech Z-2200:

    • Total RMS power: 200 watts RMS
          - Satellites: 80 watts RMS (40w x 2)
          - Subwoofer: 120 watts RMS
          - Total peak power: 400 watts
          - Frequency response: 35Hz - 20kHz

    • Drivers:
          - Satellites: 3-inch phase plug driver
          - Subwoofer: 8-inch long-throw ported driver

    • Speaker dimensions:
          - Satellites: (H) 7 inches x (W) 4.25 inches x (D) 6 inches
          - Subwoofer: (H) 11 inches x (W) 11 inches x (D) 15 inches

    • Signal to noise ratio: >100db

    • SoundTouch™ wired remote control:
          - Master volume
          - Subwoofer volume
          - Headphone jack
          - Power/Standby

Total RMS power, also known as total continuous power, indicates how many clean watts your system can deliver non-stop. Total peak power refers to the sound level you can expect on the momentary sonic bursts (also called "dynamic transients") found in music and, especially, game tracks. With the Z-2200's 200 watts RMS and peak of 400 watts, this system packs some serious power. For comparison, Klipsch's top rated 2.1 system, the Promedia 2.1, has 160 watts RMS and 200 watts peak power. Technically speaking, the Z-2200 speakers are one step above the competition.

    Other features include:

    • 8-inch long-throw subwoofer driver with flared bass port pounds out powerful, distortion-free bass.

    • Polished aluminum phase plug satellites combine two drivers into one: the clarity of a tweeter with the richness and fullness of a separate mid-range.

    • Exercise complete control over your listening experience with the full-featured SoundTouch wired remote control, headphone jack, and volume controls for both the entire system and the subwoofer

    • Pedestals rotate easily for wall mounting or desk placement.

    • Innovative design features removable grilles & aluminum phase plug drivers.

    What is THX Certified?

THX certification is a quality-control standard set forth by the THX company founded by George Lucas to label and give prestige to top notch audio and visual performance in theaters and in your home. There are different applications of the THX name, including Professional THX used in commercial movie theaters, and Home THX for everything else. Home THX specifications are not published, and manufactures are legally bound to keep them non-disclosed. Manufacturers must also pay royalties for products sold that have received certification.

"THX Ltd. is the founder of quality assurance programs for superior cinema presentation. It was established in 1983 by George Lucas to ensure that the entertainment consumer experienced films as the director intended. Today, THX Certification assures the finest picture and sound quality for cinemas, mixing studios, home theatres, DVDs, multimedia products, and luxury automotive vehicles."

For computer speakers to be THX certified means the speakers have passed specific performance, accuracy, and quality tests. The Z-2200 speakers are THX certified, and according to Logitech:

"Once you hook them up to your PC or music player, you'll hear the difference immediately: Rich, clear highs and mid-range. Booming, distortion-free bass. All in a sophisticated design that will look great on any desktop or living room."

This all sure sounds great, but do the speakers sound as good as they've been made out to be?
