Logitech X-530 Speaker System Review - Testing
(Page 4 of 4 )
Once you have set up the speakers and checked all of the connections, you may have to set up the onboard audio or soundcard to play 5.1 or 6 channel. Some motherboards will automatically detect when you connect the speakers to the back panel and ask you what speakers these are, you can simply select what speakers they plug into and you are ready to go. For other sound devices, you may need to open its configuration program in Windows and use the correct settings.
The first thing I noticed is that this speaker system will not play sound from the rear or center speakers when playing regular mp3 music. This is because mp3s are not encoded in surround sound, so the playing music will not be sent to these speakers. So to test the surround sound I loaded up The Lord of the Rings – Return of the King. I wanted to use a movie most people have seen, and one that I have seen in theaters so that I can compare to that experience (minus the stale popcorn and sticky floors of course).
While watching Return of the King, everything in my room was shaking, and the sound was crystal clear with no lack of treble, midrange or bass; I heard all there was to hear. When I went to grab something to drink, I could still clearly hear all the sounds, with a reduction in the volume. Outside my house, I could faintly hear the bass kicking. I decided to set them up to playing surround sound encoded games such as Counter Strike – Source. Simply put, it sounded great, although the usual newbie’s on there were aggravating; I could hear when someone was walking behind me, and I could turn around and get them. These speakers are excellent to game with.
Pros
- Excellent sound quality, excellent bass and high end, with no distortion.
- Speakers have a unique look with quad drivers and black and gray theme.
- High Excursion subwoofer sure does pump a lot of air in and out of the sub, can be felt 5ft away from the vent.
- Compatible with surround sound enabled games which make an amazing gaming experience
- System is relatively cheap at only $50-$80
- 5.1 enabled games are considerably better than 2.1 systems
- Volume, On/Off, and headphone jack located on right speaker.
- All satellite speakers are wall mountable.
Cons
- Connectors go from the right speaker to the computer and subwoofer limiting distance from the computer to place right speaker or subwoofer.
- System is really not that powerful at 140W peak, yet sounds great.
- Regular MP3 music is played in a 2.1 configuration and is not very loud.
- No remote subwoofer volume, must reach behind sub to lower volume
- $5 Adapter needed for installation with Xbox or PS2 (available online)
Recommendation
The Logitech X-530 is a great 5.1 surround sound speaker system, and puts out very clear audio whatever the source may be. A few things had aggravated me during the setup like all of the main thick wires coming from the right speakers, which would also limit how far you could setup the right speaker from the subwoofer and the PC but all in all the sound quality is amazing and seems to be held back since everything is crystal clear at maximum volume simply shows there is more in this system. I really wouldn’t recommend these speakers if you have a large room simply because at maximum output it simply cannot fill a large room with the same sound.
If you are interested in an inexpensive 5.1 surround sound system that is perfect for your computer go to your favorite online store and look for Logitech’s X-530 as it is powerful enough to fill an average sized room with great sound.
