Logitech X-240 2.1 PC Speakers - Performance
(Page 3 of 4 )
When determining the performance of the Logitech X-240 PC speaker system, I tried to keep in mind that this is a $36 system, not a $200 system - so my opinions about the performance of this system are in comparison with other "budget" computer speaker systems on the market today.

That being said, the sound that these speakers produce is exceptional! The mids sound full and rich, and the highs sound crystal clear. Distortion is, for the most part, kept in check at higher volumes. This system will get plenty loud in a computer room or an average-sized bedroom - it may not fill a huge "cavernous" great room, but it would sure come close. And besides, if you live in a home with huge rooms like that, you can afford to spend more than $36 on a 2.1 speaker system for your computer!
The subwoofer does its best to produce hard-hitting lows, but a 4-inch woofer can do only so much before succumbing to a bit of distortion. The sub's distortion at higher volumes is barely noticeable, though, because the mids and highs will pretty much drown it out. The sub will satisfy most people, but don't expect it to rattle windows or shake the floor. That being said, the combination of the two satellite speakers and the subwoofer produces outstanding sound quality that will blow your computer's factory speakers out of the water.
The Logitech X-240's peak power output is 50 watts, and 25 watts RMS during normal levels. The subwoofer uses about 15 watts RMS at 8 ohms with 10% THD. Each satellite uses about 5 watts RMS into 8 ohms with 10 % THD. The system's signal-to-noise ratio is an impressive >96dB - this means that the sound is clearer with less background noise.
Overall, I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a better 2.1 speaker system for your computer in the $36 price range. The sound isn't perfect, but I've heard $100 PC speakers that sound worse. Most reviews of the Logitech X-240 speaker system across the Web are positive. The ones that are negative are usually people who compare this speaker system to PC speakers of all price levels instead of to other speaker systems in the X-240's price range, so keep that in mind when you're doing your research before buying your next set of PC speakers.
