Logitech USB Headset 250 Review - Installation
(Page 4 of 5 )

This is all you have to do to get the headset to work, you don’t have to plug the headphones and microphone into the slots below, one simple connection to the computer.
Installation of the headset is as simple as plugging it into an available USB port and putting them on your head. Once the headset is connected, windows will automatically detect it as a Logitech USB headset, and automatically send the Audio signals to the headset, the mic

This is where the magic happens; the audio signal is converted and switched over to USB all in this tiny little battery sized converter. This piece is at the first 1ft of the cord closest to the computer, the ideal place to put this device.
Testing the Headset 250
Installation of the headset was all too easy, once it’s plugged in it automatically takes over and plays thru the headphones, all microphone signals will be picked up from the headset. To test the headset I decided in order to find out just how well these work I decided to try these headphones in a few different situations. I decided to see how well it could pick up on the microphone. Sitting on the computer here with the microphone at normal settings, the keystrokes were clearly magnified. It is an amazingly powerful and clear microphone. Comparing Audio playback I listened to one of my favorite songs I’ve heard a million times, Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven. I listened very closely while the song played. Every bit of the song came thru amazingly. Comparing the quality it’s certainly better than my older Logitech headphones and microphone which connected with two 1/8” cables. Although the audio playback wasn’t quite as high quality as my Sennheiser HD212 Pro headphones, they do not offer a microphone or USB connection.
One of the deciding figures for these headphones would be how well will they perform during gaming, since really that’s what attracted me to this headset. The signals are broadcasted just as they normally would with speakers or standard headphones. Sounds generated to the left are on the left and same with the right. When someone gets on their microphone, they are broadcasted in both left and right channels for best clarity.
The only issue that I have noticed with this headset is that you must have the USB connected before initializing your game. If you plug the USB connector during gaming, it will not pick up the signal in the headphones and continue to play thru your speaker system.
Along with that I noticed if you were to be using a media player prior to connecting the USB plug, your original media will continue to play thru your speakers while any multimedia program, application or game opened after the USB connection was established, the signal will be played thru the headphones.
All these issues can be resolved by simply restarting all programs you want to play thru your headphones. Although that could be a pain when you’re already into a game and someone says to put your headphones on. As far as I can tell there is no way to work around this issue, the headset simply cant divert the audio when it’s already being sent to another signal.
