Altec Lansing inMotion Speaker System - Battery life
(Page 4 of 4 )

Altec claims the speakers provide a 12 hour continuous play time on one set of four AA batteries. After using the set for five hours straight, the energizer bunny started slacking on me. The volume had to be turned down, otherwise the sound would get distorted and the light on the set started changing to yellow, indicating that the batteries were going dead. Okay, that was a gimmick. Maybe whisper-quiet it would have lasted for 12 hours. After seven hours it became unbearably crappy and I threw out the batteries. Be prepared to change batteries often if you are planning to sleep to the music when using this set.
Pros and Cons
Pros - Attractive small design in tune with Apple iPOD color/style scheme
- Amazingly crisp highs and strong mid-range sound
- Ability to charge the iPOD and transfer files to/from your computer
- Accessories include plates to fit other iPODs and 1/8” adapter for external music source
- Carrying case
- Portability
Cons - Unsatisfactory reproduction of low-end tones
- Short battery life plus misleading battery life advertising
Overall, I have to say that Altec has done an excellent job designing this set and it can be a real help for an Apple iPod user. It will charge the iPod, provide you with necessary connections and jacks, all while your MP3 is docked on top of the unit. Just don’t expect this set to be an all-in-one solution to replace your PC speakers. Be wary of distortion that occurs while listening to music with real deep bass. With all the hype around the Neodymium magnets and how they help boost the lows, I found it very disappointing.
As long as you listen to music that doesn't go too far into the double-digit frequencies, you will be extremely pleased with the Altec set. It will be the best thing you buy for your listening in the bedroom, in a hotel on the road, or at your desk at work. I can't wait until we get a set of Bose iPod speakers for review just to see how they compare to this particular set. But for now, it seems like a great addition that I would recommend to anyone who owns an MP3 player out there and doesn't feel like spending $300 on a Bose speaker system.
