Wii Battery-Saving Tips - Battery-Saving: What You Can Do

There are some things you can do, as a Wii owner, to conserve your precious battery power (and by extension, a little more money). First, turn off the small speaker which is on the Wii handheld remote itself. It may seem a small thing, but that little speaker can be a big power drain, so turn off the sound.

This can be accomplished when the Wii is on and operating. Start by going to the Home menu on your Nintendo Wii. Go the Remote Settings tab at the bottom and select the controller you’re using. From here, you can turn down the volume on the remote. This is a very easy way to conserve a good deal of power during play time, so you can play more while using less battery juice. It looks pretty innocuous, but that little remote can use up a whole lot of battery power, and every little bit helps.

When battery conservation is your goal, it’s also a good idea to remove the batteries from your Wii remote when the Wii is not in use. It only takes a few moments to remove the batteries after playing, and to subsequently re-insert them when you’re ready to play the Wii again.

While inside the Wii remote, even when the console and remotes are powered off, the batteries can continue to lose energy. This is why you find your Wii batteries drained when you go to start a brand-new session of play. Remove your batteries every time to conserve this power, and save yourself a few bucks in the process.
