In terms of the content available for the PSP Go, it is all digital and must be accessed from the device's internal memory. So, you can either use the Go's built-in Wi-Fi to access the PlayStation Network to download content directly to the Go, or you can transfer content onto the device via USB from your computer or PS3. As a hint, you will be better off just transferring the content after you download it on your PC or PS3, as it will take much longer to do so using the Go's internal Wi-Fi connection for larger games.
As time moves on, the initial sting of losing the UMD capabilities should wear off, as Sony plans to make over 225 games available for download online. While all of the UMD titles may not be converted and available immediately for download, you can look forward to seeing such popular games as Madden NFL 10, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas, Soulcaliber, Rock Band Unplugged, Gran Turismo, and many more.
If simplicity is your thing, and you are on a bit of a budget, you may want to look at some new titles being launched with the Go, known as PSP Minis. PSP Minis are shorter, less immersive titles for the casual gamer, priced between $5 and $10 per download. Some of the titles to look for in the Mini realm are Sudoku, Tetris, UNO, and Zombie Attack. One could interpret the release of the Minis as an attempt to gain some market share owned by the iPhone and their low-priced downloadable games.
Besides the gaming, the PSP Go has some other features as well. Bluetooth 3.0 is onboard for use with wireless headsets. You can use the Go's web browser to surf the net using a Wi-Fi connection as well. You can also use the system's integrated microphone and Internet connection to talk to friends while on the go using Skype. The Go is also good for watching downloaded movies and TV shows, and there are thousands of selections to choose from the PlayStation Network online. You can even view photos and listen to Internet radio.
So, in the end, is the PSP Go worth its $250 price tag? Probably not. If you already own an older generation PSP, then it is definitely not worth it due to no backward compatibility with UMD titles. If you are a first-timer looking for a portable gaming device, then go for a PSP -- just not the Go version, at least not until the price drops or more gaming titles become available.
