In terms of features on the PS3 Slim, you won’t find anything new. You will, however, find some omissions. Unlike the regular PS3, you will not be able to add another operating system, such as Linux.
Another negative, especially for those with well established libraries of old games, is that you will not be able to play any of your PS2 games on the PS3 Slim, while this capability was present on other PS3 versions. Although the PS3’s games are great and have highly advanced graphics, not being able to play the older PS2 games might be a big negative for some, especially if they like to pop in an previous generation’s game for old time’s sake.
Another omission on the Slim that would have been a welcome feature is that you cannot use a universal IR remote to control the Slim. That all-in-one control advantage is a luxury, but it still would have been nice if Sony made it possible.
Omitted features aside, you still get much of the same capabilities with the Sony PS3 Slim 120GB that are found in the previously-released fatter 80 GB and 160 GB models of the console despite its lower price. The Slim functions not only as a high-definition gaming system but also as a Blu-ray and DVD player. There is built-in wifi as well as a web browser to surf the Internet. One advantage of the PS3 is that you get Wi-Fi already installed, as compared to the competing Xbox 360 console where you have to pay an extra $100 for a Wi-Fi adapter.
