New Super Mario Bros. for the Wii

Those who are fans of the Super Mario Bros. series can rejoice with the release of the New Super Mario Bros for the Wii gaming console. This new edition keeps much of the main ingredients the same that made the game a legend and adds in a few tweaks for a modern touch. Keep reading for a closer look.

While the game is tough enough to challenge even some of the best Mario experts, it comes with features that are sure to get even the most casual gamers involved as well. Add a very entertaining multiplayer feature to what the game offers and you have yourself a must-have game for Mario fans and Wii owners alike. You can pick up New Super Mario Bros. for $49.99.

The storyline of New Super Mario Bros. is pretty basic and linear. Your main goal is to rescue Princess Peach after she has been kidnapped by Bowser and the Koopalings. To rescue her you must pass through all the different 2D worlds and levels, all while avoiding enemies and performing tasks such as jumping and spinning to make it to the end.

There are eight worlds in all, each with its own enemies and pitfalls that are sure to derail you many times on your way to succeeding. Although the game is mostly 2D, it does incorporate some 3D-like qualities that give it a nice look in terms of graphics. The sound is good as well, and Mario veterans will likely recognize some of the sound effects from previous releases.

Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto’s decision to blend the new with the old is very apparent in many parts of the game, especially when it comes to the power-ups and abilities that are available. You get plenty of the oldies like starmen, ice flowers, fire flowers, and more. Even Yoshi makes an appearance from time to time to help you out by giving you a ride and gobbling up your enemies.

As far as the new additions go, you get two cool suits that can make a huge difference in your gameplay success. The first is the propeller suit, which allows you to propel yourself high into the air and hover to avoid enemies. The second is a comical-looking penguin suit that lets you swim with ease, handle icy terrain without much trouble, and even throw ice flowers at your enemies to freeze them and render them useless.
