NCAA Football 10
It’s just about that time of year again, when college campuses are less than a month away from buzzing with students and football fans are anxiously awaiting the start of college football season. For many in the past, a quick way to get their college football fix without having the games on TV yet every Saturday was to pick up the NCAA Football franchise each year. This year is no exception, but let's see how the latest incarnation performs.
For as long as I remember NCAA Football from EA Sports has been one of the most anticipated sports titles each year, with many staying up until midnight for the release date to run out and pick it up. Being that it is a sports title, it’s not really possible to expect tons of changes each year a new edition comes out. As long as some tweaks are present though, that is usually enough to satisfy the casual sports gamer, as most pick the game up for the updated rosters and schedules that replicate all the Saturday fun that is soon to come.
NCAA Football 10 for Xbox 360 keeps with this tradition of adding a few tweaks to keep gamers happy. Many will not notice much of a difference from last year, but it is still a fun game, especially if you are a college football junkie like I am.
Among the differences in the 2010 edition of the game are some gameplay improvements to make the game more realistic, as well as a new Season Showdown mode that rewards players for achieving specific tasks while playing.
Regardless of some of its imperfections, NCAA Football 10 for the Xbox 360 is a must have for college football enthusiasts. The game currently retails for $59.99.
Before we jump into the meat and potatoes of the game, such as gameplay and presentation, let’s discuss some of the newer modes or features present in NCAA Football 10. Season Showdown is a mode that you can do against the computer or online, although at this point, until the actual college football season begins, you can only play against the computer. All is not a waste though, as there are leader boards on which you can be placed to see where you stack up against the competition.
Season Showdown mode is where you are rewarded for basically playing the game as it should be played. You can receive points for doing things such as punting the ball on fourth down, or executing a user tackle. This mode in effect stresses things such as good sportsmanship or strategy while playing. While it may not attract all players, those who like the nostalgia and realism of college football will like this feature.
