Halo 3 Hands On - Gameplay

I have been anticipating this release for a while and was eager to hop into a game and let loose. It did take some time to find players for a game. Like Halo 2 it bases people on their ranking and finds people around your skill level to play with. I found it a rather prolonged wait for the game to find a suitable game and connect me to it. It took up to 10 minutes to find a game I could play on. It would be fine if there were only a handful of people looking for games, but there were thousands of people in the "rumble pit" looking for games, so I didn't see what took so long.
It could take 15+ games before you find one that will work for you. Once you find one, it sometimes would hang on loading the game for a few minutes. While this will be an annoyance for the game when released, it should be cleaned up by then. This is only the first mass test of the network and servers, so I didn't expect it to be perfect now; there are games even now that still have crappy multiplayer components.

After my initial "WOW" and a quick pause, I began playing. The controller layout hasn't been changed a great deal; it has had a few remaps for the Xbox 360 controller vs. the Xbox controller. I have been playing Halo 2 on my Xbox 360 for some time now, and the layout is mostly the same.
The biggest change I noticed was how you pick up weapons. Instead of a pop up saying press Y to pick up the weapon, and then hold Y to dual up, it uses the RB and LB buttons. The RB picks up the weapon, and the LB will allow you to dual up with certain weapons. This does take some time to get used to. It doesn't pop up in the middle of the screen anymore; it's snuggled nicely in the right and left corners of the screen.
