GTA IV: Going Too Far? - September 11?

As a gamer, I have played all the GTA games since the first one.  Each release allows more and more vehicles and weapons.  While I’m all for 200 more ways to kill people and steal their money, some of the things might not work so well with Liberty AKA New York City. In the latest release GTA: San Andreas, you can pilot plans and helicopters around. I for one was horrible at it, and kept my feet on the ground as much as possible, but there are others that enjoyed the flying aspect and are hoping it will appear in this release.

People flying planes around New York buildings…. This might not bring back the happiest memories for America. I don’t think the ability to fly planes into buildings or loading a car with C4 and driving over to the building is what we want our children to do.

There has been speculation that this game, unlike GTA III, takes place in modern times.  This has been the rumor with the buildings that can be seen in the trailer along with the cars being driven around.  I don’t think the whole flying planes into buildings aspect would be such a horrible thing if the game took place a few decades in the future or past, but these are buildings that stand now and were standing when the World Trade Center was hit. While nothing about the game and the ability to commit terrorist like acts have been released, I think Rockstar will have to step around this very lightly.  Maybe Rockstar will add in Homeland Security so that any time you get near a building with an airplane you get shot down.

From past games, only when it was part of your mission to destroy something was it actually possible. For example, if you ran your car next to a building filled with C4 and blew it up, the car would go boom and people around splat, but the building was untouched.  When the mission was to take down a building, planting C4 there made it go bye bye.

This is what Rockstar has to be careful with. I’m sure they have had people deciding where it would be politically appropriate to demolish a building in the game. The middle of Time Square isn’t the best; the middle of Long Island might be a little better.
