    Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Review

The fourth installment of the Elder Scrolls series is holding its own at number four in the U.S. game charts since its release and it’s easy to see why. This isn’t just a game; it’s a whole new reality, a gateway into an alternative dimension. The game is absolutely huge, probably one of the biggest games ever made. But be warned, with all that game play comes some serious addiction.

This is intended just as a brief introduction to the game. There is no possible way that I could describe every feature of the game, or talk about either the main quest or any of the many, many sub-quests in any detail in a short article such as this. There are walk-through guides to just the main quest that are over two hundred pages long! But I'll do what I can with the space available, and if you're considering buying it, with a bit of luck this will provide the necessary intrigue to let you join the masses that are already enjoying it.

The short game introduction features the voice of Patrick Stuart to get you up to speed on the storyline of the game.  His character is the Emperor Uriel Septim, who is under threat from the Mythic Dawn, a cult band of assassins that are trying to destroy the Emperor's bloodline in order to open the gates of Oblivion. These ominously-named gates lead to a separate dimension from the reality of the game, and keep that dimension out. The Mythic Dawn succeeds in destroying Uriel and the gates begin to open. It's your job to find the lost heir to the throne, help close the gates, and prevent the demons from invading the land of Tamriel.

Before you begin you select your character from one of ten different races, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Your character is highly customizable, giving you full control over the size and shape of all of the basic facial features, different hair and beard colors and different skin tones.  You can even set the age of the character, giving you an almost limitless range of styles from which to personalize your in-game alter ego. There's even a random setting to save you the time of choosing if you simply have to start playing it now.
