DJ Hero for the PS3 - Music: the Real Focus

The music selection in DJ Hero for the PS3 is awesome. There are 102 individual songs in all, which have been cross-bred into 93 exclusive new mixes. Even if you don’t feel like playing the game, you can put it on in Party Play mode to have the tracks run in the background for a party or entertainment.

The genres covered encompass hip hop, rock, pop, and dance, so there is something that should please almost all types of music lovers. The mixes are excellent and combine artists from different generations and genres into tracks that you would never think would sound so good.

You get artists like 2pac, Gwen Stefani, Paul Van Dyk, Isaac Hayes, David Bowie, 50 Cent, Marvin Gaye, Queen, the Killers, and my favorite, Vanilla Ice, just to name a slight few. As an example of the mixes available, one odd combination is Rick James’ “Give it to me” versus Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl.”

The look and sound of the game is very colorful and lively and gets your blood pumping. There are tons of crazy camera angles, flashing lights, crowd animations, and loud sound effects that make you feel like you’re a part of the concert. The only knock in the presentation could be the character models, which are on the cartoonish side.

If you are a big fan of music games or just a music fan in general, DJ Hero is a great choice. The turntable is fun to use and the songs are out of this world. Although the multiplayer is a bit lacking, it’s still a game that should keep audiophiles busy. As for the price issue, a true music fan should be able to overlook the high cost, and if not, maybe wait some time until it drops a bit.
