Age of Conan Review
There is no doubt that early successful MMORPGs like
Everquest and
Asheron’s Call quickly validated the market for successors. Now, more than three years since the release of the current title-holder,
World of Warcraft, comes a new game with real possible staying power. It was created by Funcom and it's called
Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures (AoC). Funcom, most remembered for its decently distributed
Anarchy Online, scores a huge hit with
Age of Conan, a game five years in the making.

Right off the bat, there are two main things I really like about this new game. The first is that it just looks absolutely beautiful, which is not too difficult to explain. The second is that it comes with an "M" rating, which I think is just long overdue. Not long overdue because it was in question whether or not it was going to have such a rating (which actually it was); rather, it's long overdue that somebody made such a MMORPG for adults.
The high marks for the look and feel of the game require little explanation: fantastically generated, with 7.1 surround audio. It just has incredible graphics and sound, so if that's important to you in a game, you might want to check this out. It's very dark and gritty, as was the world of Conan, if you remember that far back. The musical score of the game is also quite nice, playing lightly through lush landscapes dotted by corpses on pikes and marked by decapitated bodies.
What I care more about than the look and feel of the game is the advancement of the "M" rating as a positive factor. I do not see it as a bad thing at all. I see it as a mark of a game I probably want to play. Now, I can't speak to all the underage children that are inevitably going to play the game. If they ask me if they should, I will say no, I promise.
But I do spent time wondering what's up with the M rating, and what kind of game that might be. This game, distributed with an "M" rating is a good thing, as it brings a ton of functionality and dimension to the table for game playing adults, such as cussing, topless characters and fantastic blood, gore and violence!
It's a game, it's not real, so it's okay ;)-'
