2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa for Wii - Modes of Play

The different gameplay modes in 2010 FIFA World Cup offer you some flexibility, although the multiplayer options are much more fun than the single player ones. This is one title you will want to buy if you have a lot of friends over who enjoy soccer as well.

Up to four players can participate in the Global Elimination Tournament mode, which allows each person to select up to four teams in a knockout style tournament. You can pick and choose your best team matchups versus friends, and the person with the final team left standing after all the matches is the winner.

Online matches are a bit limited, as you are mostly restricted to one-on-one matchups versus other players. You can also play two-on-two if you have a friend over, and matches are qualified as either ranked or unranked. There are no leagues set up online at this time, but with a little luck EA may decide to add some in the future once the World Cup kicks off.

Another multiplayer option is to simulate the World Cup tournament. In this mode, up to 32 people can select different teams.

Basic single player modes include exhibition matches, and you can also partake in the World Cup on your own. These are decent, but since 2010 FIFA World Cup lacks a lot of realism, single player can get repetitive.

Perhaps the most interesting mode in the whole game is the Zakumi's Dream Team mode. This challenge-based mode gives you a team made up of players randomly picked from nations that did not make the World Cup. You will have to play each of the 32 World Cup qualifiers and achieve certain objectives, such as limiting shots on goal, play sans slide tackles, and more.

If you achieve these objectives and win, you will get to select a certain player from your losing opponent's roster and add them to your team. You keep doing this until all 32 nations are played. Of course, this mode is a bit odd, but it does give you some incentive to keep playing.
