Zalman CNPS7000A-AlCu Review - Specifications
(Page 2 of 6 )
The CNPS7000A comes in two versions, the AlCu and Cu. If you're familiar with the periodic table of elements, you'll know that Al is aluminum and Cu is copper. Thus, the CNPS7000A-AlCu is part aluminum and part copper while the CNPS7000A-Cu is an all copper cooler. Now why would Zalman do this? Everyone knows copper transfers heat better than aluminum, so why doesn't everyone just use the copper version? (In fact, the Cu version doesn't even cost much more than the AlCu version.) The sole reason is weight. The AlCu is 445g while the Cu is 773g. The specification maximum weight of coolers for socket 478/754/462 is 450g/450g/300g respectively. Using a cooler heavier than specification does not necessarily mean you will automatically damage your CPU, nor does it mean using a cooler within specification prevents you from damaging your CPU. It really all depends on how careful you are while installing the cooler and when moving the computer.

The fan on the 7000A runs at two speeds, either 1350 RPM or 2400 RPM. This is done by means of FAN MATE 1, a small voltage adjuster that is included. Additionally, the fan is a 92mm, which means it can run at low RPM while still providing the performance of a normal 80mm fan.
These are the features of the CNPS7000A-AlCu given by Zalman:
- Does not generate noise or vibration in Silent Mode.
- Pure Copper and pure Aluminum base materials ensure excellent heat dissipation.
- INTEL Pentium 4 (Socket478) and AMD Athlon 64 (Socket754) compatible design for broad compatibility.
- 92mm fan inside the FHS maximizes airflow.
- Adjustable fan speed controller (FAN MATE 1) enables control of noise and fan performance.
Zalman also recommends the fan be set to Normal Mode when overclocking. Notice that Zalman says the CNPS7000A-AlCu is compatible with socket 478 and socket 754. This is from Zalman's website. The 7000A's packaging however, shows support for socket 462 as well. A mounting kit for socket 462 is even including. Keep this discrepancy in mind if you are considering this cooler for an Athlon XP or Duron because the 7000A exceeds 300g.
