    Thermalright HR-01 Review - Results

The first thing I noticed about the HR-01 is its ability to get scorching hot while running in passive mode. Nonetheless, my system remained stable, and temperatures were within the tolerances set by Intel. To find my idle and load temperatures I set up my computer to run two instances of Prime 95, with each one focused on separate CPU cores. And I had Core Temp open to monitor the die temperatures of each core during the test; I recorded the temperatures of both cores, and found an average.

    Stock
    Idle      Load
    ----------------
    51        58

    Over clocked at 2.331
    Idle      Load
    ----------------
    52.5     61

Of course there a lot of factors to mention when it comes to these results. First things first: the surface of my CPU's integrated heat spreader is very concave. A lot of the new Intel processors seem to have this problem. Lapping the CPU will greatly reduce the temperatures, and further increase the performance of this cooler.

    Pros & Cons

    Pros

    • Amazing build quality.
    • Excellent performance no matter how you use it.
    • Fan duct improves overall temperatures by pulling exhausted air outside the chassis reducing recirculation.
    • Supports Dual Core and Quad Core CPUs
    • Standard Intel mounting system, with a bolt through design available.
    • Excellent cost to performance ratio.

Cons (None really, but if I had to nit pick)

    • The base could be a little smoother.
    • Cooler is very tall, and can possibly cause issues with some side panel fans.

    Conclusion

The HR-01 certainly is one of the best coolers I have used recently. The performance is simply outstanding; it can keep a highly overclocked processor at standard temperatures with ease. Its build quality is one of the highlights of the unit, and with the duct, it provides an excellent thermal solution for your chassis. Thermalright simple has designed an excellent product with the HR-01.

Anyone who is looking for an excellent cooling system and doesn't want to remove the motherboard from the system should check this cooler out; it is most likely the best cooler you can get. In my opinion this is the best cooler you can get without taking advantage of water-cooling or other extreme cooling solutions.
