Evercool Neon Crab - Unpacking and Accessories

Along with the cooler itself the only thing else in the package is an adapter allowing you to use your PSU's molex connectors rather than a fan header on your motherboard.

Along with the adapter I have flipped the piece of cardboard inside out and as you can see Evercool has a few installation instuctions with some very nice color photos rather than some cheap drawings that one might expect. In addition to these instructions you can also get installation tips from their website on the Neon Crab's product page.

Now for the main event, the Neon Crab itself. Fairly simple in design, though simple is probably preferable in this case.

It's not too hard to see the crab-like similarities that Evercool managed to incorporate into this products design. The two claw-like arms curled underneath and the antennae-like eyes popping out of the top. You can see the wiring has been wrapped in a white material to give it a more finished look and since the Neon Crab is intended for aesthetics as much as functionality this was a smart move on Evercool's part.

Taking a look at the underside reveals two 40mm Evercool brand fans.

Each fan is outfitted with two blue LED's and, according to the specifications, spins at 4500 RPM. Also you can get a better look at the Crab's claws. Each has a small square of black rubber on the tip which will be the two contact points upon installation. On the hinge of these claws you can see a small metal pin.

I've zoomed in on this in order to show you the simplicity of the design. It works a lot like the common clothes pin, a small spring on either side and a piece of metal going through the plastic connecting the two and creating the tension.

Like I mentioned before, the simplicity here is likely a good thing as a more complicated design just means there's more things that can go wrong. Since this product's only job is to clip on to the memory modules, what should be a fairly simple task, it's complimented by this simple design.
