The test bed will be a Pentium 4 that was using a Cooler Master Jet series HSF to cool the processor.

This is the processor used in this test:

The old HSF that was inside the machine has been there for about a year and has given us a maximum performance of 280MHz external freq on this PC. However, there were other solutions tried with this processor that brought it up to 295. The Cooler Master was stable at 280MHz max. The Jet series HSF was not the best from the air-cooled devices but it did the job and looked very flashy in the case.

Aside from being mediocre in performance, it was the loudest fan in the box; if you were to adjust the RPMs, there was a large drop in cooling performance. This was one of the important reasons to installing the water cooling in this machine: reduce the overall fan noise. By taking out the two 80mm rear fans and CPU fan, we should see the reduction of noise. That is, of course, if the 120mm RADBOX fan and pump aren’t going to make up for the difference.
