Asetek Waterchill CPU Power Kit Review - Pros and Cons of the CPU Power Kit

    Pros

    • Excellent performance, allows CPU to be overclocked to new limits.
    • Various sizes of radiators are available.
    • All hardware included for proper mounting of the kit, nothing extra to buy besides distilled water (if you don’t want to make your own).
    • Very impressive build quality and overall looks of the system.
    • Ease of upgradeability, simply purchase new blocks and add them to the system.
    • Future processors will be able to run on existing block with purchase of a proper lid.
    • Ease of integration with a Vapochill phase change cooling system.

    Cons

    • Price; very expensive kit, yet worth the investment if interested in high end water cooling.
    • Compatibility Issues; some cases will not be able to store the entire kit internally, and modifications or external mounting may be needed for proper installation.
    • Generic white thermal paste provided. There is a lot of better stuff out there.
    • Pump sometimes makes noise at random, which is only noticeable with side panel open.
    • Installation guides are per component; there is no guide for installation from start to finish, although it’s very simple.

    Conclusion

The Asetek Waterchill CPU Power kit is an excellent performer. Overclocking a CPU nearly 2 GHz, and maintaining lower temps than in the stock configuration is not easy, but with the right CPU, this kit is capable of doing exactly that. The ease of installation is simple enough for even the newest of newbies to assemble. The kit's upgradeability makes this kit perfect for users who plan to purchase blocks to cool other components of their system. This product deserves a Dev Hardware Recommendation, but since it’s a water cooling system it is not meant for everybody. Still, this kit is definitely a worthy investment for anyone looking to get into water cooling scene who doesn’t feel like picking out their own parts.

Id like to thank Asetek for donating a review sample to us. I would highly suggest that, if anyone is looking for high performance cooling solutions, they should check out the Asetek website. They offer high end water cooling, as reviewed here, and also offer phase change cooling systems which provide even better cooling performance and overclockablity. Asetek's kits also offer quality that is simply unmatched in the custom kit market.
