Arctic-Cooling Super Silent 4Pro L - Looking at the Super Silent 4Pro L
(Page 2 of 5 )
The 4Pro L is an all aluminum heat sink with a clear 80mm fan attached. What makes the fan interesting is its spider-like design. Four raised legs meet at the center, where the fan hangs. The "reversed hanging" fan design is just like the fan on the boxed Intel cooler, a design which reduces noise compared to conventional fans attached to heat sinks by screws or clips.

The 4Pro L is very easy to install, with clips in each of the four corners of the cooler which simply hook into holes in the original Intel retention module.

The fan speed is controlled by a simple switch mounted on a PCI bracket.

There are two cables extending from the fan: one is the power connector with RPM readout and the other is for the fan speed switch. Notice how the cables are wrapped in white sleeves.

There are a total of 26 fins compared to the boxed Intel cooler with only 17 fins.
The bottom of the heat sink was not finished very well:

Although it was heavily polished, you can clearly see in the picture the curved lines uniform throughout the base, as well as the minor scratches near the center of the heat sink, probably the most important part of the base.
The 4Pro L also comes with an Arctic-Cooling case sticker and 0.5g tube of silicone thermal paste.

Finally, here are two shots of the 4Pro L and boxed Intel cooler side-by-side.

Because of the spider-like legs for mounting the 80mm, 7 fin fan, the 4Pro L sits a little bit taller than the boxed Intel cooler, which uses an unconventional 70mm, 11 fin fan. In the second picture you can see how the bases of both sinks are shaped identically, measuring exactly 1cm thick each. Also notice how the greater number of fins on the 4Pro L translates into each fins' thickness. Surface area and CFM are the two most important factors in air coolers, and the 4Pro L is superior to the boxed Intel cooler in both ways.
