Arctic Cooling Silentium T2 Review - Installation

Installation of the motherboard was a pain. Some ATX motherboards which use side mounted IDE or Floppy connectors are not compatible with the Silentium T2. With an unmodified cable you cannot plug the connector onto the board. There is a work around for this with certain cables; some cables use a thick plastic piece where the cable is wrapped in an S pattern.

By removing the plastic piece and installing my IDE cable before mounting the motherboard into the chassis, I was able to run IDE drives without the cable hitting the HDD muffler and possibly causing vibrations.

IDE cable clears the silencer by nearly 3mm, just enough for any possible vibrations to be absorbed.

With this issue out of the way, motherboard installation continued without any other problems. Extra large CPU heatsinks have plenty of room above the motherboard, so other than the IDE cable compatibility, installation should continue without complications.

Installing DVD, Floppy and Hard drives, and Graphics cards

After installing the motherboard, you can prepare to install the tool-less 5.25 inch mounting brackets.

The tool less designs require you to connect one hook into one of the top holes, and slightly bend the rail until it fits into the other hole.

Once the rails are installed onto the drives, you slide them into the chassis until they lock into place. Then you connect the proper plugs inside, and remount the front panel.

Front drive bays are all back, including the backing of the front panel.

To install the graphics card, push in the two black clips from inside the case. This will free the locking mechanism.

The rear panel is completely tool-less; press the little black arrow and push in the direction and the panel will unlock.

Remove as many rear panels as necessary for your card; they simply slide out. Then, fit your card over the AGP or PCI-E slot, align the rear panel into the slot, and mount it into the slot. Once you have all of your components installed, press in the black blocks until they clip in to lock the mechanism.
