Arctic Cooling ATI and NV Silencers - NV Silencer 5
(Page 2 of 5 )
The Silencers are all packaged in a similar manner. The cooler is boldly portrayed through plastic on a black piece of cardboard that has information about the cooler. Bundled is a tube of silicone paste and a PCI bracket for the slot beneath the video card.

Every cooler also comes with a pretty detailed set of instructions even though installing the cooler is very simple; also provided is a Arctic Cooling case badge.

The NV Silencer 5 features 35 pressed aluminum fins on a copper base. Built for the 6800, 6800 GT, and 6800 Ultra, the NV Silencer 5 features a static 72mm 2,500 RPM ARCTIC Ceramic fan. Arctic Cooling provides the follow figures for thermal resistance and noise level: the NV Silencer 5 is 0.42 °C/W and and 0.9 Sone, the 6800 Standard Cooler is 0.63 °C/W and 2.9 Sone. A sone is defined as a subjective unit of loudness, as perceived by a person with normal hearing, equal to the loudness of a pure tone having a frequency of 1,000 hertz at 40 decibels.

Visually, the Silencers all look fairly cool. Its casing is constructed of clear plastic and the black fan, fan cable, and sticker accent the copper base and aluminum fins. The four rectangles are raised pieces of copper that cover the video card's memory.

The major difference with Arctic Cooling's new line of Silencers is the copper base and thin fin design versus the original VGA Silencer's aluminum extrusion. This difference means that the Silencers will be more expensive to produce but also better coolers. The fan and plastic casing that directs air out a PCI slot remain the same. Finally, the NV Silencer 5's base is smooth and flat - flatter than even some CPU coolers that I have seen.
