The unit arrived via a shipping carrier that has such an extensive history of mishandling packages (not naming any names) that it sometimes makes me recall Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. Every time you open a shipping box with a PC component inside you don’t know if you are in for a “treat” or not. The Gatewatch came undamaged and thanks to ample packaging inside the manufacturer’s box it withstood all the evils cast upon it on its way to us.
Aside from the component itself and the user’s guide, the box contained the following additions:
Four 3-pin fan extensions
Four thermal sensor sticky patches
sound in/out board with a back-plane dummy
1/8” to 1/8” stereo jumper cable
Seven screws to mount the unit and sound in/out board
One CR2032 lithium battery (for memory backup)
Before even installing the controller inside the case, I was a little concerned with its color matching the case. The GateWatch unit that we have is silver and the case that it is going into is dark blue. AeroCool also makes this unit in black, which would match better, but silver is what we had to work with. A good idea would have been to include several different color facepates in the box, instead of selling two different products.
