XP vs. Vista - Testing continued

    PCMark05

I said we weren’t running 3DMark06, but I never said anything about PCMark05. This takes lots of different parts of the computer into account, such as the hard drive, graphics, multimedia, and Internet rendering. Higher scores are better here.

XP jumps ahead in this test by about 200 points. Things aren’t going so well for Vista at this point. Now we will move on to the gaming part of the benchmarks.

    F.E.A.R

This game is intense; it’s starting to get up in age, but it still can be a struggle for many computers today. The game came out before Vista and had been developed for use in XP. I ran the built-in performance test and the results are below. Higher is better.

The results show XP having an advantage here with single graphic card solutions. When we move on to SLI, Vista takes the lead. I’m surprised with the results here. I would have figured this game would have been neglected to make room for upcoming games like Crysis.

    Medal of Honor: Airborne

This is the newest installment of the World War II game series. I didn’t think Pacific Assault was worth it, but this one takes it home. As the name implies, you are in the airborne and frequently parachute in and take posts. This game is very graphic intense and will test your computer. It was released after Vista, so I’m guessing it was tweaked for Vista over XP.

Vista wins with a single card solution, but in SLI mode it falls behind XP. This is in line with what I expected. MOH: Airborne was designed for Vista, but the SLI drivers are lacking still and XP’s mature drivers take the lead.
