Even though much of the underlying networking infrastructure may be insecure, there is still a lot of hope for possible solutions to many of these problems. Some of the problems left unaddressed in this article will be addressed in the next article. In particular, I will discuss security issues that crop up when working with public hotspots that are unencrypted. Because these hotspots are public, they cannot easily be encrypted in the same way as private, home wireless routers. I will discuss issues concerning business users and some solutions that might be specific to them.
This article series will also deal with other issues that arise from the spread of wireless. These issues include how wireless Internet access will continue to affect usage patterns into the future, and how our Internet access will change as wireless technologies continue to grow and mature in the marketplace.
Overall, wireless technology is a great boon for its ease of use and the spread of networking capabilities. However, it is a technology that must be used with caution, and must be understood properly to correctly and safely use it to the furthest extent of its abilities. Hopefully, this article has explained some of those important aspects of wireless access that are often overlooked.
