Wiiware Games Review - Defend Your Castle
(Page 4 of 4 )

Of the Wiiware games reviewed thus far, Defend Your Castle is definitely the most action packed. The game’s premise follows its title exactly, as the main objective is simply to defend your castle from the onslaught of attackers that are presented. Players protect their castles by using their Wii remote to control a reticule on the screen and moving it to pick up and throw attackers into the air and away from the castle.
The game begins simply enough but gets more complicated as time passes. Different types of attackers and weapons appear later in the game, each with different powers. This complicates things a bit as now players must choose which attackers present the most potential danger and must be handled first. The game can get hectic at times as the number of attackers increases, but this simply adds to its fun value.
One definite plus of Defend Your Castle is the multiplayer option. Up to four players can play at a time and can even jump into an already ongoing battle. Having four players at a time can be a dizzying experience but it is definitely nothing short of fun to see a bevy of attackers getting tossed through the air at the same time.
The game play in Defend Your Castle, while fun, can seem shallow, but certain add-ons help make up for it. As you progress through the game and earn more points you can use them to help strengthen your castle and add characters such as wizards to it to make it less vulnerable to attacks. The game itself has a high replay value thanks to its seemingly never-ending number of stages that increase in difficulty.
Priced at only $5, Defend Your Castle gives players a lot of bang for their buck. It is a fast-paced game filled with action, especially in multiplayer mode. While it does have high replay value thanks to all of its stages, those who are easily bored by repetition may want to look elsewhere.
Coming up in Part 2 of this two-part article, we will discuss the final three games that were introduced on Wiiware’s launch date of March 12: Pop, V.I.P. Casino: Blackjack, and TV Show King.
