What has Sony Been up to Lately? - Sony's New Digital Cameras

    Sony's New Digital Cameras

Sony released some new digital camera models from their popular T-series cameras, along with an all new camera called the H3. Let me begin with the new T-series cameras which offer some exciting new features for the popular point-and-shoot line of cameras.  The two new models being released by Sony are the DSC-T200 and the DSC-T70.  Both of these new cameras feature an 8 mega-pixel sensor and a touch-screen display.

The T200 offers an extremely large 3.5 inch LCD touch-screen which controls all of the functions of the camera.  This camera has a great Carl Zeiss lens which is capable of 5x optical zoom.  This model comes in several different colors: silver, black, or red.

The T70 is also an 8 mega-pixel camera which offers 3x optical zoom.  This model also offers a touch-screen LCD, but the screen is a bit smaller than the T200 at 3 inches.  This model comes in silver, black, white, and pink.

Both of these new cameras are special because of there large touch-screen LCDs, slim and compact design, and 8 mega-pixel sensor, but that is not all they offer.  Another feature of these new cameras is the ability to view photos in full HD via an HD-ready TV.  These cameras feature a built-in slide show feature which will make viewing your photos more enjoyable in full 1080 HD resolution.

These cameras offer another new innovation from Sony called the "smile shutter."  This feature will not only seek out faces in the frame, but it will seek out smiles and take the photo at the best possible moment.  This will help to eliminate photos where the person isn't smiling the moment that the photo was taken.

Other features of these cameras include ISO 3200 capabilities, resizing of photos (4:3 or 16:9), and cool new design frames to put along the borders of your photos.  These cameras came into stores around September, and are reasonably priced for everything you get. The T70 retails for $300 (but can be found online for around $250), and the T200 retails for $400 (but can be found online for as little as $340).

Sony's new line of H-series cameras compares well to other super-zoom cameras currently on the market.  The new H3 is called a super-zoom camera because of its 10x optical zoom capabilities.  Just like the new T-series cameras by Sony, the new DSC-H3 will have the ability to connect to an HDTV for picture viewing in full 1080 resolution.

This relatively compact super-zoom offers a good set of features.  The H3 features an average-sized LCD at 2.5 inches.  Sony is targeting the "soccer moms" of the world with the H3.  They have added an advanced sport shooting mode that captures high-speed moments with higher shutter speeds to reduce blurriness.  To further reduce blurry shots, Sony has added their Super Steady Shot optical image stabilization system, which reduces blurry images due to camera-shake.

Sony has also integrated a boat-load of in-camera editing options into the H3.  Users can touch up photos and fix red-eye issues with ease.  The H3 is also equipped with Sony's Dynamic Range Optimizer, which analyzes the image and automatically selects the best exposure.

The H3 came on the market in September of 2007 and retails for around $300. It can be found online for a little over $250. I expect to see these new Sony cameras are already flying off the shelves at retail stores, and probably landing under the Christmas trees of many shutterbugs this season.
