What has Sony Been up to Lately? - HD PC/TV with Blu-ray

    HD PC/TV with Blu-ray

Sony has unveiled a new PC/TV called the Vaio LT HD PC/TV, which entered stores less than two months ago (October 2007).  This powerful new PC/TV from Sony features a floating glass design with a 22 inch WSXGA+  LCD display. There are both standard and HD models available, retailing for $2050 and $2900 respectively (prices on Sony's Vaio web site).

The LT model displays razor sharp image quality with its HD and Blu-ray capabilities.  What makes this unit so special is that it is both a powerful PC and an HDTV.  Users can switch from watching television to surfing the Internet within seconds with this PC/TV combination.  Sony claims that both the Internet and the cable TV applications can run at the same time with no performance issues at all.  This unit also features a built-in 1.3 mega-pixel digital camera, built-in wireless 802.11n LAN technology, and comes pre-installed with Windows Vista Ultimate Edition.

The PC side of this device offers an Intel Core 2 Duo processor for lightning fast processing speeds.  It also features 2 GB of RAM and a discrete graphics card which can run HDTV or fast-action PC games with no problem at all.

The more expensive version of this PC/TV offers the user the ability to watch Blu-ray DVDs for even more of an HD experience.  A cable card is required in order to view cable programming through this unit.  Sony gives the user the ability to record TV shows onto the hard drive of the computer.  The 22 inch screen can also be mounted on a wall with an adapter that is not included with the PC/TV.

I would expect Sony to expand on the PC/TV combination in the future with larger screen combinations and faster processors.  Because in the future, everyone will have a PC/TV combination instead of a separate PC and a separate TV.
