VoIP with Free Phone Service for Life - Cost

How Much Money Can I Save?

The initial sticker shock of the Ooma hardware price tag will probably be enough to turn a lot of consumers off right away. If you crunch the numbers, though, you can see a potential savings over a period of time by using Ooma over a company like AT&T or Vonage.

Here is an example using my personal monthly phone charges. As I already mentioned, I currently am a Vonage customer, and I pay about $43 per month for two lines of nationwide service, which can be seen by my phone bill.

Ooma also offers two lines of nationwide service, so I will compare the costs of both services. I will assume that the average consumer would purchase the Ooma hub along with two Ooma Scouts, which would be a grand total of $477. There is no recurring costs for Ooma customers. My Vonage service costs me $43 per month which is $516 per year. So, it looks like after one year, the Ooma customer would save a few dollars over Vonage.

If I took it a step further and looked five years down the road, a bigger savings is realized. My costs for Ooma five years down the line remain at $477, while my costs for Vonage balloon up to $2,580. This is a difference of $2,103 over the five years of phone service. That is quite a difference!
