VoIP with Free Phone Service for Life - Ooma

    Who is Ooma?

Ooma was founded by Andrew Frame, who worked for Cisco since the age of 17. At that age, he earned Cisco's top technical honor, the CCIE certification. He became the youngest person to ever receive that honor.

Other top executives of the small start-up company include:

    • Thomas L. Cronan III: Chief Financial Officer

    • Toby Farrand: Vice President of Engineering and Operations

    • Dennis Peng: Product Management

    • Sarah Ross: Vice President of Communications

    • Tish Whitcraft: Vice President of Customer Experience and Operations

    • Ashton Kutcher: Creative Director

Yes, that last name is the actor who starred in the hit series "That 70's Show," as well as the producer of "Punkd" on MTV. Ashton was one of the many people who believe in the business plan of Ooma, and who have put up over $27 million of venture capital to get the ball rolling.

Andrew Frame founded the company in 2005, and along with a team of engineers, developed the hardware and software for Ooma. Ooma opened its services to the masses in September of 2007. The management team has a pretty good resume as a whole, so I believe Ooma has a good chance for success.

Similar companies have failed at the VoIP phone service. Just recently, SunRocket shut down their phone services and left over 200,000 customers without phone service. SunRocket was the second-leading VoIP company, behind Vonage. Customers who had prepaid plans while using SunRocket's services may not even get that money back. So needless to say, Ooma may be too risky for the average consumer to just jump on board and fork over $399 for the Ooma phone hub.
