The User Revolution and Web 2.0 - Conclusion

You know, not all of ABC and CBS news is boring and dull to me.  I love their Sports, US. News, and Technology sections.  I don't really care for their international news or their financial sections.  I had to either find another site that offered news more tailored to what I like or had to just put up with it.  Not anymore, because now you can customize your own sites.  I'm not talking about designing your own site, I'm talking about going to a news site and saying 'I don't want this, this and this section, so don't even bother putting it on my screen.'

We now have control over what news we get and are no longer limited to what the news sites want to show us.  Google News is built around this whole idea.  You start with a default layout and from there you can move the sections around on the screen, you can choose to see more or less stories, or even not see a certain section at all.  It goes out and grabs news from many different sources and throws them all into a centralized location.

Web 2.0 is going to bring about a radical change to the Internet. Before, if you wanted your own web page, you needed to know some kind of coding language. Though it was possible to have your own site, it wasn’t easy and many people didn’t bother trying. Now with sites like MySpace and YouTube, you can share pictures, text, and videos among your friends and the rest of the world. We can even customize the way other media outlets get us their news.

We don’t have to continue watching our investments tumble, we can remove sections of the news from our homepage. We decide what's news worthy to us and what we couldn’t care less about. The Web 2.0 revolution is in full motion now and is still picking up steam. The ‘.com’ bubble might have busted, but the ‘Web 2.0’ bubble is growing rapidly. YouTube is only one example of a site that came to life with Web 2.0, and I’m sure it won’t be the last multimillion dollar site in this bubble.
