    Television Without a Tuner

The Internet has taken over our lives in a multitude of ways. Just as the days of newspapers, fancy magazines or books in the form invented by Gutenberg are over, so are the days of the traditional TVs. Bill Gates told business leaders at the World Economic Forum in Davos (2006) that in five years TV will be an old technology, and watching videos on the Internet will become the norm.

According to The Lemelson-MIT Program research conducted at Cambridge, MA on January 11, 1999, the most important invention of the twentieth century was the computer because it had a tremendously obvious impact on our everyday life. Based on this, we can say that the most important achievement in the twenty-first century by mankind is the spread of high-speed Internet connections at affordable prices. Thanks to this, almost everyone can use the net.

You may ask, “why is it that important?” Well, the answer is simple. We can't deny that it changed our perception of life. We use it daily; even now you're reading an article on the net. The life we knew before is now just a memory. And we have already forgotten the days when we needed to go to the bank to make a money transfer or to pay our bills.

Therefore, the timing couldn't be better to stop for a second, look around, and analyze the current options so we can decide whether online TV is a possibility to be taken into account when we want to watch our favorite movie, show, or the six o'clock news.

Throughout the following pages we will try to answer this question by looking into the advantages and disadvantages of this service. Finally, we will check out a couple of sites and applications that offer this kind of service, and ultimately finish the article by answering the aforementioned question.
