Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii - Playing with the Wii Controls
(Page 3 of 4 )
As with many other Wii titles, the controls in Super Mario Galaxy are excellent and really immerse you in the action. You use both the nunchuk’s analog stick and the Wii remote to both control Mario and interact with objects in the universe. By using both the analog stick and pointing at the same time you get an added dimension of control over Mario that allows him to multitask, so to speak. You can easily interact with enemies and items in the universe even as you are running and jumping thanks to the Wii’s diversified control system.
The diversified control system in Super Mario Galaxy also incorporates motion control during some of its adventures. For instance, you will use motion control during a manta ray race. In order to steer the animal, you must first unlock it using a key. By using the Wii remote you twist your hand in an unlocking motion just as you would in real life and voila, you are ready to go! This is just one example of how motion control is used in Super Mario Galaxy and how it can immerse you even more in this great game. It makes you feel like part of the action, and is a far cry from the button pushing of old.

The camera system used in Super Mario Galaxy is excellent as well. Super Mario Galaxy uses an auto camera system that follows Mario wherever he goes, whether it is left, right, or even upside down. Unlike other games where the camera can be a hindrance at times, in Super Mario Galaxy the “smart” camera system knows just when and where to be in the right place, allowing you to always stay on top of the action. At times you also have the option to center the camera if you choose to as well.
